Apollo of the Arts is an inclusive and collaborative ensemble that brings to the fore composers and repertoire that are unknown, underperformed or forgotten, while creating high-level and sustainable work for musicians. The group has recently performed Lost Lamentations, sacred works by Czech-born baroque masters for voices and continuo in Brasenose College Oxford's Platnauer Concert series, the chapel of Winchester College, and the Jacqueline du Pré Music Building at St. Hilda's College, Oxford.
The group's focus is on European baroque music, including works by great masters such as JS Bach, Purcell and Handel, while also exploring lesser-known music by Jan Dismas Zelenka, Frantisek Tůma, Barbara Strozzi and Simon Brixi
The name 'Apollo of the Arts' was given to the great patron of the visual arts, music and literature, Richard Boyle, 3rd Earl of Burlington, a friend of Handel.
